Matthew Barker Memorial Cardboard Boat Regatta

Paden City Park

HELLO FROM THE WILDCATS!

Paden City High School's students and staff will be hosting the annual Matthew Barker Memorial Cardboard Boat Regatta at Paden City Park on September 21, 2021, at 10am.

All schools in Wetzel County have been invited to join, as well as Tyler Consolidated High School and John Marshall High School. Students from the competing schools will create cardboard boats out of a pre-determined list of acceptable materials including duct tape, latex paint and other supplies. The students learn the science behind how the cardboard can stand up to the water, how to make them waterproof and how to ensure they will be competitive during the race. They will then race these boats on the Ohio River on the day of the competition. The winning team will earn bragging rights and be invited to the Georgetown Cardboard Boat Regatta in Georgetown, South Carolina.

We are asking sponsors for funds for materials, prizes, awards and the winners' trip to Georgetown since the students pay for their traveling expenses. We are also looking to buy additional tools and order t-shirts for the participants. As a sponsor, we will thank you publicly via our school's social media pages and signage at the event. We would also love if you could attend the event to cheer on the participants! Any amount of money your organization can donate is greatly appreciated by the students, faculty, staff and community of these schools. We look forward to working with you! If you have any questions, please give us a call at the school (304) 337-2266 or call our fundraising coordinator at (304) 517-9323.

THANK YOU, Paden City High School Cardboard Boat Regatta Team
