A pair of Michigan school bus drivers are being praised for helping reunite a two-year-old with his family after he was left on the side of the road by a car thief. Earlier this week a thief stole a car in Kentwood, Michigan, with a two-year-old boy in the backseat. It’s believed that the thief realized the boy was in the vehicle a short while later and dropped him off on the side of the road with a blanket.

Kelloggsville School District bus driver Dave Skinner was driving down the road and saw some people frantically trying to flag him down. He pulled over and, despite a language barrier, realized that their car had been stolen with their child inside. Skinner called 911 and also got on his radio with the school bus dispatch office. Soon, a second bus driven by Sue Figueroa arrived and once she was caught up, she told them she’d just passed a boy on the side of the road. She thought it was odd, but assumed an adult was nearby.

Figueroa returned the one-half mile back to the boy, brought him onto her bus and delivered him to his grateful parents. Kelloggsville Public Schools Transportation Director Kristin Nickelson called the two drivers heroes and said they deserve all the credit for going above and beyond to help the family reunite.
