I never had a step-parent - but this does hit close to home for me. 9 years ago I got a divorce and was left basically raising my son on my own with the assistance of my mother.
At the time, I couldn't fathom the thought of another woman in my life and thought I'd continue doing it on my own.
But then I met my now wife, Jessica. She was young, just had started college, and still managed to adjust her whole life to graciously accommodate my situation. She's stuck by our side through thick and thin, and our family has grown together. We now have another son, and each living our lives to the fullest.
Jessica stepped up, and she didn't have to.
