A woman in Spain who took care of everything in her home during her marriage while her husband grew a flourishing gym business is getting a nice chunk of change following her divorce. Ivana Moral will be paid around $215-thousand from her ex-husband after a court ruled that she’s owed the compensation for doing unpaid housework during their 25-year marriage, according to reports from iNews and Spanish language newspaper “El Pais.”

The 48-year-old mom of two asked her husband for a divorce in 2020 and the news outlets report that she’ll get a monthly payment of about $528 from him. A judge came up with the amount based on the minimum monthly professional wage for the two-and-a-half decades the couple was married. Moral’s ex has also been ordered to pay about $425 to their 20-year-old daughter and around $638 to their 14-year-old daughter, according to iNews. He’s expected to appeal the ruling.

Moral told the court she “exclusively” handled the family’s housework during their marriage, noting that she couldn’t pursue her own career because of “her exclusive dedication to the home and family,” while her ex “accumulated and exponentially increased his assets.” He also reportedly refused to pay for one of their daughter’s education when she turned 16. “Clearly this was a case of abuse to be completely excluded financially (by my ex-husband),” Moral says. “So me and my daughters were left with nothing after all these years of putting all my time, energy and love into the family.”
