Last Friday, Jenny Zimbelman was driving on a rural road 11 miles outside East Grand Forks, Minnesota, with her daughter Jazmine Torres when they hit a snowdrift and crashed their SUV. They were trapped inside the overturned vehicle and watched as car after car passed by without stopping to help. “I was like, ‘Why is nobody stopping for us?’, because you can see us through the windshield,” said Jazmine. “I just want somebody to help us, I just want to get out of the car. I was scared that somebody was going to crash into us too.”
But then someone did finally stop. Braving the extreme weather, a stranger climbed up on top of their SUV and opened the door, helping the mother and daughter out of the vehicle. “Extremely cold out, my hands started burning immediately and I was still scared on top of the car so as soon as we both had gotten down then I felt way better.” Torres recalls.
The mother and daughter didn’t get the man’s name before he left as quickly as he arrived. Now Zimbelman and Torres are calling the stranger a hero. "To have somebody not know me or my daughter, pull over on a very bad, bad day, climb on top of a car, open the door, get us out safe and then he just left,” Zimbleman says. “He is a hero.” The ladies hope someday they’re able to find the stranger so they can thank him for saving them.
