Project Linus of Western North Carolina held a "Day of Love" event in Arden, North Carolina, where participants made blankets, or as they call them "hugs," for children in crisis. This was the first time the event had taken place in four years, adding to its significance.
Project Linus is a national nonprofit organization that provides handmade blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. The Western North Carolina Chapter of Project Linus serves 12 counties and has distributed over 87-thousand blankets since its inception 25 years ago.
Coordinator for the Western North Carolina Chapter, Ellen Knoefel, says the blankets, which could be no-sew fleece blankets, quilted, crocheted, or even knitted, will be distributed to facilities - like hospitals and shelters - across Western North Carolina. She also says they’re always looking for more facilities who could use some “hugs,” created with love, to give to a child in need.
