That’s one lucky dog. A pit bull that went missing in 2017 was found almost 500 miles from its home. Tara Hillis of Atlanta, Georgia says her dog named Chief disappeared from her yard six years ago by digging under the fence or jumping over it. Hillis says years started to go by and she gave up on ever reuniting with her pup, who was only a year old when it went missing.

But just when all hope was lost, a couple of good Samaritans say they found Chief over the weekend, wandering alone in Wayne County, West Virginia. That’s seven hours away from home! After bringing Chief to an animal control shelter, they read the pup’s chip information and contacted Hillis. Though she’s still ironing out how to get Chief home, Hillis says it should happen this week.
