Earlier this week, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy in Florida assisted a pregnant woman in delivering her baby on the shoulder of the highway. Master Deputy Daniel "Red" Jones was approached by a panicked driver whose wife was about to give birth. After calling for help, Jones "sprang into action" and helped deliver a baby girl in the front seat of the car. Authorities say that the officer provided emotional support and used his training during the delivery.

Bodycam footage shows Jones telling the woman to "breathe" as he holds her hand. Later in the video, the officer is seen holding the baby girl up to her mother. After the delivery, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived and transported the mom and her newborn to a nearby hospital for evaluation and care.

The deputy was "thrilled" to help deliver the baby and suggested naming her "Red" after him. Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister praised Jones for his quick response and dedication, noting this was his third time assisting with an emergency delivery since joining the team in 2021. The sheriff wished the family "all the joy and happiness" and congratulated them on their new baby girl.
