A man in California is being called a miracle by doctors after being saved after 70 minutes of CPR. David Mills, 67, went into cardiac arrest at his home in San Diego home when his 25-year-old grandson called 9-1-1. The quick-thinking kid started chest compressions while on the phone with medics and after working on his grandfather for over an hour, brought him back to life.

Mills told a local news outlet he feels “lucky to be here” and he’s not wrong. The man’s doctors say he had less than a one percent chance of surviving the incident, let alone with his neurology intact. One doctor pointed out that “Starting CPR immediately is critical as the brain can only go about four to six minutes without oxygen before permanent damage occurs.” He urges people to get started with lifesaving help instead of waiting for the paramedics to arrive.
